Tools
I’ve been using Readwise extensively this week, but I still have more work to do to get to the point I want with this tool. For example, I still need to transfer my highlights from my physical books. Monday I added some highlights that need to be polished, at the moment of writing this paragraph, Tuesday, I haven’t done that.
Alongside Readwise I’ve started using raindrop as a complement for my browser bookmarks, and Refind for discovering new articles, newsletters, or blogs that may interest me. I move some of my local RSS/Atom feed to Feedly with the hope of better integration with Readwise until their reader leaves closed beta. Now I use todoist to serve as a weird fusion between a digital bullet journal and kanban board for my blog, this newsletter, and my software projects. Reclaim is another excellent tool, but I haven't gotten used to it, is great to plan and move things around my calendar.
I created “Broadcast Highlights” with my favorite highlights from my daily and themed reviews in Readwise.
Interesting videos I watch this week
This video is interesting because it talks about certain typographies and why some prefer Times New Roman and if there are benefits to using it.
If you’re looking for a Twitter alternative and heard about mastodon but don’t understand what it is, this video explains some ideas behind mastodon and other services. Note: this video is a little technical.
In this video, the girls at The take talk about Doomerism and how it is represented in the media and more.
This video explores 4 habits that may kill your motivation and that even someone like Richard Feynman had at some point a bad time motivating himself.
Articles I found interesting
The following two articles talk about AI and some ethical concerns about its use and how we feed data to train or tune AI. The last post explores how we write alongside AI and if in the future AI may write for us.
This article is an old article I read some time ago, and this week I find it away while I was cleaning my RSS feeds and Pocket. Here, the author explains why writing books may not be a good idea, and also explore how “new” ways to publish fiction in the digital era.
This last article is about quitting, how knowing when to quit is a skill we should improve to improve our life or even save it.
Some images generated from Readwise highlights
This week I found more interesting things that are more thematically specific. e.g. anime, software engineering, etc. That’s why I didn’t include them here. I have the idea of creating more newsletters, one like this one but in Spanish, my native language, another about software engineering in English, and one about anime/manga/webtoons/webcomics in Spanish, English, or both. But I’m still unsure.
I hope you have a great day. Until next week… or sooner if I write the others newsletters.
